WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Thiel College wrestling team opened their Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) schedule with a 30-21 loss to Washington & Jefferson College on Wednesday night.
The Tomcats started out fast with a 13-10 decision from
Devyn Giovengo (McKees Rocks, Pa./Montour) at 125 pounds before dropping the next three matches by pin to give the Presidents a commanding 18-3 lead.
Jason Miller (Clarksville, Pa./Jefferson Morgan), at 157 pounds, stopped W&J's run as he pinned Zach Schrott (5:48) to put Thiel back in contention.
A medical default at 165 pounds extended the Presidents' lead again before
Austin Bonacci (West Mifflin, Pa./West Mifflin) earned a 3-1 decision over Jaden Datz at 174 pounds. Thiel earned back-to-back decision wins as
Dominic Farabaugh (Loretto, Pa./Penn Cambria) collected a 4-2 decision over Alex Miller at 184 pounds.
Gage Gladysz (Greenville, Pa./Greenville) finished the match with a pin at heavyweight over Jake Walker (2:47), but it wasn't enough for the Tomcats in a 30-21 loss.
With the loss, Thiel fell to 5-3 in duals on the year and 0-1 in the PAC.
The Tomcats will be back in action Saturday when they host the 12th annual Mel Berry Duals. Thiel wil host Adrian and Mercyhurst North East, with matches beginning at 1 p.m.
