Destiny Johnson (Baltimore, Md./Western) recorded her sixth double-double of the season Saturday, but it wasn't enough for the Thiel College women's basketball team in a 63-53 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) loss on the road to the Bethany Bison.
The Tomcats led 11-9 after one quarter but were outscored 22-10 in the second quarter and trailed 31-21 at halftime.
Thiel trailed by just four points heading into the fourth quarter after outscoring Bethany 18-12 in the third.
Courtney Warnick (Southington, Ohio/Chalker) made a layup early in the fourth quarter to cut the lead down to two points (43-41), but the Tomcats would get no closer down the stretch.
Jess Vormelker (Orwell, Ohio/Grand Valley) led the Tomcats with 14 points while contributing four assists. Johnson tallied her sixth double-double of the season with 13 points and 13 rebounds. She also recorded three blocks, two steals and two assists.
Alivia Sidley (Thompson, Ohio/Ledgemont) scored 10 points while handing out three assists. Warnick chipped in with seven points.
Ashley Duthie recorded a double-double for the Bison with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Kelsie Meintel also scored 15 points to go along with eight rebounds. Sammie Weiss scored 12 points and corralled nine rebounds.
The Tomcats will be back in action Monday, Dec. 17 when they open play in the HoopMIA D3 Holiday Shootout against the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh Titans. The game is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. at the Health & Sports Center on the campus of Barry University in Miami Shores, Fla.
