EDINBORO, Pa. – The Thiel College men's basketball team opened the 2018-19 season Saturday with an 81-63 non-conference loss on the road to the Division II Edinboro Fighting Scots.
Thiel trailed 40-31 at halftime but opened the second half on a 16-8 run to cut the lead down to a point (48-47) after
Terrance Holloway (Farrell, Pa./Farrell) made a pair of shots from the charity stripe at the 13:13 mark. The Tomcats never managed to take the lead in the second half, and the Fighting Scots began to pull away with roughly seven minutes remaining.
Alonzo Brown (Largo, Fla./Pinellas Park) led the Tomcats with 14 points and a game-high nine rebounds. Holloway and
Daquan Simmons (Capitol Heights, Md./Central) scored 13 and 10 points, respectively.
Andre Williams (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./Boyd H. Anderson) scored eight points and grabbed six rebounds while
Nyric Gosley (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport) scored seven points and pulled down five rebounds.
Jaryn Simpson scored a game-best 22 points for the Fighting Scots. Daylon Harris and DeAnthony Owens contributed 15 and 14 points, respectively.
The Tomcats will face the Division II Clarion Golden Eagles on the road Tuesday. The game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
