KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The Thiel Tomcats split a pair of contests Friday and concluded play in the Diamond 9 Citrus Games at Disney's ESPN Wide World of Sports. Thiel earned a 4-3 win over Simmons College Friday before suffering a 7-2 loss to 15th-ranked Coe College.
Alexa Fike (Export, Pa./Franklin Regional) went 2-for-2 at the plate in the victory over the Simmons Sharks. Miranda Reesman (Vandergrift, Pa./Leechburg) contributed two RBIs in the win while Caitlyn Carney (Lake Milton, Ohio/Jackson Milton) and Vanessa Falce (McKeesport, Pa./McKeesport) also knocked in one run apiece.
Mackenzie Gullette (Dunlap, Ill. /Dunlap) earned her third win of the season. In seven innings, she struck out five batters and allowed three runs on eight hits.
Molly Hennessey went 3-for-3 at the plate for the Sharks and contributed one RBI. Tori Gomes suffered the loss for Simmons. In four innings, she allowed four runs on nine hits.
The Tomcats battled against the 15th-ranked Kohawks of Coe College.
Coe took an early two-run lead in the first inning and extended the lead to 3-0 win a run in the third.
The Tomcats scored a pair of runs in the top of the sixth to cut the lead down to one run. Jessica Kelley (Sarver, Pa./Freeport) drove in one of the runs on an RBI-single. However, the Kohawks scored four more runs in the bottom of the sixth and held on for the win.
Kelley absorbed the loss for the Tomcats. She allowed three earned runs on 10 hits over six innings.
Maliah Fligg earned the win for the Kohawks. She struck out four batters and allowed two runs on six hits.
The Tomcats finished play in the Diamond 9 Citrus Games with a 4-6 record. Thiel is scheduled to host Penn State Beaver on Saturday, March 18. The first pitch of the doubleheader is set for 1 p.m.
