GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College men's basketball team dropped a non conference game to Case Western Reserve University on Wednesday night at Beeghly Gymnasium 64-56.
The Spartans built a 10-point lead going into the second as both T.J. Duckett and Ignas Masiulonis collected 10 points each for Case Western.
The Tomcats struggled in the first as they converted on just two of eleven from three-point range and were nine of 29 from the field in the first half.
Thiel closed the gap to as little as four points and had possession with 1:03 remaining in the game but were unable to come away with any points. Case Western regained possession on a missed three-point attempt with under 40 seconds and iced the game by making their last four free throw attempts. Thiel fell 64-56, with the loss the Tomcats drop to 3-3 on the year.
Three Tomcats were in double figures on the night as
Tyreik Burton (Lewes, Del./Cape Henlopen) collected a team-high 14 points.
Nyric Gosley (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport) and
Mert Ozkaynak (Izmir, Turkey/T.C. Williams) added 12 and 10 points, respectively.
Thiel will be back in action on Saturday as they go on the road to face Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) opponent Waynesburg University at Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse in Waynesburg, Pa., tip off is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
