CRESSON, Pa. – The Thiel College women's tennis team opened the 2016 season Friday with an 8-1 loss to the Mount Aloysius Mounties.
Freshman
Marquett Samuels (Austintown, Ohio/Austintown Fitch) picked up a win for the Tomcats at No. 6 singles. She defeated MacKenzie Sweitzer 6-1, 6-1.
Also for the Thiel,
Sara Matczak (Erie, Pa./Fairview) played a close match against Emily Goldyn at No. 1 singles, but fell 6-3, 6-3. Matczak and
Lauren Wolfe (Anita, Pa./Punxsutawney) also played in a tough No. 1 doubles match against Goldyn and Joselyn Walters before falling, 8-5.
The Tomcats will open Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) play Thursday when they travel to Grove City, Pa., to take on the Wolverines at 3:30 p.m.
