LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Thiel College men's lacrosse team was knocked out of the Ohio River Lacrosse Conference (ORLC) Championship Tournament Wednesday after suffering a 14-5 semifinal loss on the road to the top-seeded and defending league champion Transylvania Pioneers.
Timothy O'Shea (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) gave the Tomcats the lead 5:34 into the contest on an unassisted goal. After the Pioneers took a 2-1 lead,
Shawndel Evans II (New Haven, Conn./Notre Dame) tied up the score at the 9:48 mark of the second period on another unassisted goal.
O'Shea scored his second goal of the game with five minutes remaining in the second period to cut Transylvania lead down to 4-3. However, the Pioneers scored five goals over the remainder of the second period to hold a 9-3 lead at halftime and never looked back.
O'Shea paced the Tomcats with two goals.
Aaron Parry (Erie, Pa./McDowell),
Jared Saffer (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) and Evans II also scored one goal apiece for Thiel. Ben Erwin led Transylvania with four points (1G, 3A) while Alex Cherry, Zack Riggs and Clark Watts each scored two goals and registered one assist.
Charles Wistner (Orchard Park, N.Y./Orchard Park) made 19 saves for the Tomcats while Cooper Fogle made four saves for the Pioneers.
Thiel finished the season with a 10-4 record overall.
