GREENVILLE, Pa. –
Taylor Duchon (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) and
Jess Vormelker (Orwell, Ohio/Grand Valley) combined for 47 points Wednesday to lead the Thiel College women's basketball team to a 68-43 win over the Penn College Wildcats at Beeghly Gymnasium.
The Tomcats led 20-10 after the first quarter and 34-14 at halftime to cruise to the non-conference victory.
Duchon scored a game-high 24 points for the Tomcats to go along with eight rebounds. Vormelker notched a double-double, the first of her sophomore campaign, with 23 points and 10 rebounds.
Also for the Tomcats,
Alyssa Mondl (Akron, Ohio/Cuyahoga Falls) scored six points and grabbed four rebounds while
Sadie Buchser (Verona, Pa./Riverview) scored four points.
Maddie Wenk and Alicia Ross paced the Wildcats with 13 points apiece. Gwen Lavelle also contributed 11 points.
The Tomcats (1-1) will compete in the Betty Abgott Invitational, hosted by Buffalo State, on Friday and Saturday. The Tomcats will take on the Nazareth College Golden Flyers Friday at 1 p.m. during the first round of the invitational.
