GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College women's soccer team earned their first Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) win of the season in a 1-0 shutout victory over the Waynesburg Yellow Jackets Saturday afternoon.
It was scoreless the majority of the game until the 70
th minute. After
Elizabeth Wilkinson (Apollo, Pa./Kiski Area) forced a Waynesburg turnover in the Thiel half of the field, Wilkinson lobbed the ball to
Kaytee Candela (Ashtabula, Ohio/Lakeside) who rifled the bouncing ball past the keeper from 30 yards out for the lone goal of the game.
Even though Waynesburg outshot Thiel 16-5, Thiel had a strong midfield and defense, breaking up a majority of Waynesburg's advances.
Kim Gentry (Madison, Ohio/Madison) made four stops in goal for Thiel.
The Tomcats will head down to Crestview Hills, Ky. on Monday to take on the Thomas More Saints in a PAC match. The action is scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m. at BB&T Field.
