WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Thiel College wrestling team finished in 11^th place at the two day Budd Whitehill Duals, hosted by Lycoming College.
 
The Tomcats dropped their opening match in the ninth place bracket to the host Lycoming Warriors 37-6. Jordan Smith (Olean, N.Y./Portville Central) picked up the lone Tomcat win in the dual against Lycoming, pinning Walter Fox in 3:59 at the 157-pound weight class.
 
The Tomcats rebounded in the consolation bracket, picking up a hard-fought 21-18 win against the SUNY-Oswego Lakers. The Tomcats rifled off four straight wins to open the match. 125-pounder Vince Vahaly (Bentleyville, Pa./Bentworth) started off the match with an 8-1 major decision over Jacob Yankloski of Oswego. After Lance Waters (Abingdon, Md./John Carroll) and Robert Ritschard (Oley, Pa./Oley Valley) both earned decisions in their respective matches, Nick Sutton (Butler, Pa./Butler) pinned Steven Culbert in 5:55 at 149 pounds. Chris Nuss (West Homestead, Pa/Central Catholic) recorded a decision at 165 pounds over Mark Millisci after a loss in the 157-pound match.
 
After Oswego tied up the match 18-18 after three straight wins, Tyler Hendzel (Bridgeville, Pa./Chartiers Valley) notched the 3-2 match-clinching win at heavyweight over Kade Andrews.
 
The Tomcats will take part in the Mount Union Open on Sunday, Jan. 17. The tournament is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. from the Pederson Fieldhouse in Alliance, Ohio.
