PITTSBURGH, Pa. –
Hannah Stoneman (Sugarcreek, Ohio/Hiland),
Jess Vormelker (Orwell, Ohio/Grand Valley) and
Taylor Ketler (Dalton, Ohio/Dalton) each scored more than 10 points Wednesday to lead the Thiel College women's basketball team to a 70-68 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) road win over the Chatham Cougars.
The Tomcats led 36-25 at halftime, but the Cougars cut the lead down to two points after three quarters of play and took the lead early in the fourth frame on a three-pointer by Rachel McClain. The Tomcats sealed the win with good free-throw shooting down the stretch, including a perfect 6-for-6 effort by senior point guard
Kayla Welty (Portville, N.Y./Portville ) who scored her team's 69
th and 70
th points at the charity stripe with nine seconds remaining in the contest.
Stoneman led the Tomcats with 16 points while Vormelker scored 15 points and tallied nine rebounds. Ketler recorded a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds.
McClain paced Chatham with 18 points. Jesse Hinkle notched a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds.
The Tomcats will continue PAC play Saturday when they take on the Westminster Titans on the road. The game is scheduled to begin at 1:30 p.m.
