WAYNESBURG, Pa. – The Thiel College wrestling team downed the Waynesburg Yellow Jackets 24-16 in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) dual meet Friday night.
After Thiel dropped the opening match at 125 pounds,
Lance Waters (Abingdon, Md./John Carroll) pinned Zach Swarrow in 44 seconds at 133 pounds.
Waynesburg tied the match at 141 pounds and then Thiel rifled off four straight match wins to take a 19-6 lead.
Nick Sutton (Butler, Pa./Butler) (149),
Jordan Smith (Olean, N.Y./Portville Central) (157) and
Chris Nuss (West Homestead, Pa/Central Catholic) (174) all earned decisions in their respective bouts.
Brett Beltz (Bridgeville, Pa./South Fayette) picked up a 8-0 major decision at 165 pounds over Landon Lohr.
Marco Crivelli (Clinton, Pa./Hopewell) sealed the victory for the Tomcats at 197 pounds, recording a 17-0 technical fall over Joshua Sneeringer.
With the victory, the Tomcats sweep both PAC opponents for the second consecutive season.
The Tomcats will return to action at the John Summa Invitational, hosted by Baldwin Wallace University, on Saturday, Feb. 6. The tournament will start at 10 a.m. from Berea, Ohio.
