GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College wrestling team went 1-2 Saturday at the ninth annual Mel Berry Duals, which took place at Beeghly Gymnasium.
 
Thiel opened the day with a 39-6 victory over Mercyhurst North East. Marco Crivelli (Clinton, Pa./Hopewell) (184) pinned Garrett Smead in 3:52 while Robert Ritschard (Oley, Pa./Oley Valley) (141), Jordan Smith (Olean, N.Y./Portville Central) (157), Chris Nuss (West Homestead, Pa/Central Catholic) (165), Dominic Farabaugh (Loretto, Pa./Penn Cambria) (174) and Tyler Hendzel (Bridgeville, Pa./Chartiers Valley) (285) all earned wins by decision.
 
Thiel went on to lose to ninth-ranked Ithaca (41-7) and 18^th-ranked Baldwin Wallace (39-7). Brett Beltz (Bridgeville, Pa./South Fayette) (157) defeated Ithaca's Anthony Fano by major decision (16-2) while Nick Sutton (Butler, Pa./Butler) (149) won by decision (6-3) over Adam Moser.
 
Against Baldwin Wallace, Ritschard won by major decision (8-0) over Zach Taylor while Beltz won by decision (7-0) over Graham Montague.
 
Thiel senior wrestlers and their parents were honored before the Mel Berry Duals began Saturday morning.
 
Thiel (8-10, 1-0 PAC) will take on Waynesburg on the road on Friday, Jan. 29. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
