GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College wrestling team downed the Washington and Jefferson Presidents 22-18 in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) dual meet Wednesday night at Beeghly Gymnasium.
The Tomcats rifled off two wins to open the match at 157 and 165 pounds.
Jordan Smith (Olean, N.Y./Portville Central) scored an 11-0 major decision over Sam Florentino while
Chris Nuss (West Homestead, Pa/Central Catholic) pinned Jessie Lesko in 4:59.
After the Tomcats dropped a match at 174 pounds,
Marco Crivelli (Clinton, Pa./Hopewell) earned a 7-5 decision in the sudden victory overtime period over Marty Shulik.
The Presidents took the lead after three straight decisions before the Tomcats rebounded and took two of the final three matches to win the dual meet.
Lance Waters (Abingdon, Md./John Carroll) picked up a victory via pinfall over Michael Smith at 133 pounds before
Robert Ritschard (Oley, Pa./Oley Valley) recorded a 3-1 decision over Dan Pommerer at 141 pounds.
The Tomcats will host the ninth annual Mel Berry Duals on Saturday, Jan. 23. Other teams participating in the Duals include ninth-ranked Ithaca, 18th-ranked Baldwin Wallace and Mercyhurst-North East. The action is slated to begin at 11 a.m. at Beeghly Gymnasium.
