GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College men's lacrosse team dropped a tough season-opening nonconference contest to the Washington & Jefferson Presidents Saturday at the Rissell-Schreyer Dome, 9-8.
Thiel trailed 5-4 at halftime and 7-4 after three quarters of play. The Tomcats outscored the Presidents in the fourth quarter 4-2 but were unable to score the game-tying goal down the stretch.
Timothy O'Shea (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) figured in on seven of Thiel's goals. He scored three goals himself and added assists on four other Tomcat markers. Also for Thiel,
Mike Bryant (Cleveland, Ohio/Cleveland Heights) scored two goals while
Edward Kargbo (Alexandria, Va./T.C. Williams) recorded a goal and an assist.
Tim Angell led the Presidents with four goals while Zachary Fredericks scored three goals.
Ryan Weldon (Centereach, N.Y./Newfield) took the loss for the Tomcats. He made 11 saves in 60 minutes of work. Jacob Succop made 15 saves and earned the win for the Presidents.
The Tomcats (0-1) will return to action Wednesday, Feb. 25 when they host Hiram at 4 p.m.
