GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College wrestling team went 2-1 Friday at the 8^th Annual Mel Berry Duals at Beeghly Gymnasium.
 
The Tomcats opened the day with wins over Mercyhurst North East Saints (42-6) and Rochester Institute of Technology Tigers (24-13) before falling to the Baldwin Wallace Yellow Jackets (34-5). The Yellow Jackets are ranked No. 15 in the nation, according to the most recent National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) rankings.
 
Jerrold Roosa (Randolph, N.Y./Randolph Central) led the Tomcats with a perfect 3-0 record Friday. He pinned Mercyhurst North East's Garrett Smead in 2:45, then earned decision wins over Rochester Institute of Technology's Jake Swearingen (8-1) and Baldwin Wallace's Ben LeBrun (9-2).
 
Roosa and Marco Crivelli (Clinton, Pa./Hopewell) both earned pins against Mercyhurst North East. Thiel trailed Rochester Institute of Technology 11-6 after four matches, but went on to earn victories in five of the final six matches to win, 24-13. Sean Byham (Saegertown, Pa./Saegertown) and Crivelli both earned extra-points victories for the Tomcats down the stretch against the Tigers. Byham won by technical fall (15-0, 7:00) over Evan Vershay while Crivelli picked up a major decision over Nick Fisk (11-0).
