GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College women's tennis team defeated the Fredonia State University Blue Devils Wednesday 8-1 to remain undefeated (2-0) on the season.
Five Tomcats won two matches Wednesday, including:
Shay Kashey (Edinboro, Pa./General McLane),
Lauren Mittner (New Brighton, Pa./New Brighton),
Sara Matczak (Erie, Pa./Fairview) and Emily and
Nicole Carlton (Beloit, Ohio/West Branch).
Kashey and Mittner blanked Stephanie Thompson and Jenna Fiacco at No. 1 doubles, 8-0. Kashey also defeated Thompson at No. 1 singles (6-4, 6-3) while Mittner defeated Emily Fulkerson at No. 2 singles (6-1, 6-0).
Matczak and
Lauren Wolfe (Anita, Pa./Punxsutawney) teamed up to defeat Chloe Cohen and Halee Dickinson at No. 2 doubles, 8-5. Matczak also won at No. 3 singles, besting Dickinson 6-3, 3-6, 6-2.
Sisters Emily and
Nicole Carlton (Beloit, Ohio/West Branch) won their second No. 3 doubles match of the season together Wednesday, an 8-3 decision over Fulkerson and Leanna Hofstead. The Carltons also won their singles matches Wednesday. Emily defeated Fiacco (4-6, 6-0, 7-3) while Nicole topped Hofstead (6-1, 6-3).
The Tomcats (2-0) will open up Presidents' Athletic Conference play on Monday, Sept. 8 when they travel to Beaver Falls, Pa. to take on the Geneva Golden Tornadoes at 4 p.m.
