Box Score GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College women's soccer team opened the 2014 season Sunday with a 2-0 loss to the Juniata Eagles at Alumni Stadium.
The game was scoreless after 45 minutes of play but Juniata took the lead 32 seconds into the second half on Emily Green's goal, which was assisted by Michaela Lacek.
The Tomcats had a good chance to tie up the game with roughly 27 minutes remaining in regulation when
Kaytee Candela (Geneva, Ohio/Lakeside) ripped a shot from close range, but Juniata goalkeeper Shannon Kriz made a better save.
The Eagles went on to double their lead with less than 17 minutes to play on a goal by Olivia Claycomb. Thiel netminder
Kim Gentry (Madison, Ohio/Madison) made the initial save on Claycomb, but Claycomb scored on the rebound.
Gentry and
Mary Oakey (Baltimore, Md. /Mercy ), who each played a half, combined to make 12 saves.
The Tomcats (0-1) will return to action Thursday when they travel to Buffalo, N.Y., to take on the D'Youville College Spartans. Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m.
