Wrestling goes 3-0 at Si Ostrach Meet

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Thiel College wrestling team went 3-0 Saturday at the 2014 Si Ostrach Meet, hosted by Case Western Reserve University.
 
Thiel defeated Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), 35-12, then disposed of Muskingum University, 44-7 before closing out the day with a 35-9 win over host Case Western Reserve University.
 
Juniors Jerrold Roosa (Randolph, N.Y./Randolph Central) and Jacob Lowry (Smithfield, Pa./Albert Gallatin) were both perfect on the day with a trio of wins. Roosa (184-pounds) pinned Conor Driscoll of Case Western Reserve at the 2:20 mark and needed seven seconds less (2:13) to stick Wyatt Albanese of RIT. He also scored a win by forfeit in the victory over Muskingum.

Lowry ran his record to 34-0 with two forfeits and a major decision. In his only match of the meet, the Albert Gallatin High product majored Lucas Weber of Muskingum, 12-3.
 
A pair of Tomcats went 2-0 on the day. At 125, freshman Vince Vahaly (Bentleyville, Pa./Bentworth) posted a 9-0 major decision over Case's Matt Moy before sticking RIT's Andrew Flanafan at the 4:58 mark. At 285, Blake Heim (Greenville, Pa./Reynolds) picked up a win by forfeit, and registered the quickest pin on the afternoon for Thiel, utilizing his signature "heimlock" to take down Eddie McBride of RIT in just 12 seconds.
  
Overall, the Tomcats (12-7, 1-1 PAC) scored bonus points in 20 of their 30 individual matches during the four team dual meet.

Thiel is back in action on March 2, when they take part in the 2014 NCAA Mideast Regionals at York College. Wrestling commences at 9 a.m.
