Berg kicks home late game-winner to lift Tomcats over Golden Tornadoes during homecoming

Box Score GREENVILLE, Pa. – Morgan Berg (Cleveland, Ohio/Rocky River) scored the game-winning goal in the 89th minute Friday at Alumni Stadium, allowing the Thiel College women's soccer team to open up Homecoming 2014 with a 1-0 win over the Geneva Golden Tornadoes.
 
Senior defender Monica Ochoa (North Royalton, Ohio/Padua Franciscan) set Berg up on the game-winning goal on a picture-perfect pass.
 
Berg took five shots in the game four of which were on net. Mary Oakey (Baltimore, Md. /Mercy ) made three saves, preserving the win with a shutout performance.
 
Heidi Mann took seven shots for the Golden Tornadoes while netminder Anna McMullen made five saves.
 
Friday's game was the first in Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) play for both teams. The Tomcats (3-9, 1-0 PAC) will be back in action Tuesday, Oct. 7 when they travel to Grove City to take on the Wolverines. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m.
