Box Score GREENVILLE, Pa. — The Thiel College women's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision to D'Youville College as the Spartans found the net twice in the second half Thursday night.
After 45 minutes, neither team had scored on seven shots. D'Youville's Nicole LaVere found an opening down the left wing and beat the Tomcat defense to score in the 73rd minute.
Thiel's best scoring opportunity came in the waning minutes of the first half when Spartans goalkeeper Christina Ventresca fumbled a loose ball, allowing Thiel's
Morgan Berg (Cleveland, Ohio/Rocky River) to tap the ball past the end line for an apparent goal- only to have the center referee wave the goal off.
The Spartans' Elizabeth Lyons put the game out of reach in the 88
th minute, burying a shot to provide the final scoring margin.
Kelley Bellia (Beaver, Pa./Blackhawk) led the Tomcats with three shots, while freshman
Jessica Scott (Austintown, Ohio/Austintown-Fitch) made four saves in goal for Thiel.
The Tomcats return to action on Sept. 11 when they travel to Steubenville, Ohio to take on Franciscan University. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m.
