GREENSBURG, Pa. – Junior forward
Kelley Bellia (Beaver, Pa./Blackhawk) scored the game-winner 5:41 into the second overtime as the Thiel College Tomcats rallied for a 2-1 victory at the University of Pitt-Greensburg, extending Thiel's four-game winning streak in the process.
The win improves the Tomcats to 5-3 overall, and the four-game winning streak is the longest such streak for the Tomcat women's soccer team since the 2003 season.
The five wins thus far this season also matches Thiel's win total from a year ago.
Bellia scored the golden goal on a rebound of a
Monica Ochoa (North Royalton, Ohio/Padua Franciscan) shot that was turned away by the Bobcats' goalkeeper at the 105:41 minute mark. Bellia's goal was her second of the season.
Pitt-Greensburg got on the scoreboard first, when Tiffanni Downey scored just 5:15 into the first half, and the Bobcats maintained the lead until sophomore midfielder
Morgan Berg (Cleveland, Ohio/Rocky River) tied the game for Thiel with her team-best sixth goal of the season in the 61st minute.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Mary Oakey (Baltimore, Md. /Mercy ) made four saves on eight shots, as the Tomcat defense did its part in keeping the ball on the Bobcats side of the field, not allowing Pitt-Greensburg to take a shot in either of the two overtime periods.
Thiel held a 16-8 advantage in shots for the game - and a commanding 15-3 margin in the second half and overtime periods.
Thiel has outscored its opponents during the win streak, 12-4, going into Wednesday's match against Penn State Allegheny at 4 p.m. at Alumni Stadium.
