Early Lead By Saints Too Much For Tomcats

CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky. – The women's basketball team suffered a 89-39 setback against first-place Presidents' Athletic Conference opponent Thomas More (22-1, 16-0 PAC) on Saturday at the Conner Center.

Kelly Barzak (Warren, OH/Howland) and Kelly Muffley (Salsburg, Pa./Western Reserve Academy) were the lone Tomcats in double digits, recording 14 and 13 points respectively. Barzak recorded her ninth double-double of the season, grabbing ten boards and also blocking three shots. Freshman Kayla Welty added five points and three rebounds.

Allison Long had a game-high 31 points and five steals to lead the ninth-ranked Saints. Devin Beasley finished with 16 points while Katie Kitchen chipped in with 13 points and seven rebounds.

The first three minutes of the game proved to be decisive as the Saints opened up on an 11-0 run. Unable to overcome the early deficit, the Tomcats (6-17, 5-11 PAC) played catch-up the entire night.

Thiel will return to action on Wednesday, February 12 when they travel to Chatham. Tip-off is expected at 7 p.m.
