CLEVELAND – The Thiel College wrestling team went 3-0 Saturday at the 2013 Si Ostrach Meet, which was held at Case Western Reserve University.
Thiel defeated Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), 31-12. The Tomcats beat Muskingum University 38-15 before closing out the day with a 43-9 win over host Case Western Reserve University.
Jordan Powell was perfect on the day at 165 pounds with a trio of wins. He won a 2-1 decision over RIT's Sean Sercu and then picked up a forfeit win against Muskingum. He finished the afternoon with a 9-1 major decision over Case Western's Brian Snyder.
Seven Tomcats went 2-0 on the day. At 125,
Nick Hart (Cambridge Springs, Pa./Cambridge Springs) won a 5-3 decision over RIT's Nike Nguyen before winning by technical fall (18-3, 4:23) over Muskingum's Ahmad Taylor. At 141, Adam Matthews picked up a 13-0 major decision over RIT's Lucas Howland. He then pinned Case Western's Xander Straughter in 1:36. At 174,
Jerrold Roosa (Randolph, N.Y./Randolph Central) won by major decision (13-2) over RIT's Nick Fisk before winning by fall in 1:54 over Case Western's Ryan Brubaker.
Marco Crivelli pinned both of his opponents at 184 pounds. Crivelli put RIT's Collin Doane on his back in 1:54 and then pinned Case Western's Joe DeGenova in 2:43. Like Crivelli, freshman heavyweight Blake Heim won both of his matches by fall. He pinned RIT's Nick Stewart in 6:34 and needed just 39 seconds to stick Case Western's Dale English.
Overall, the Tomcats (12-7, 1-1 PAC) won eight matches by fall Saturday and two bouts by technical fall.
