PITTSBURGH, Pa. –
Kelly Barzak (Warren, OH/Howland) notched her 10
th double-double of the season Wednesday to lead the Thiel Tomcats to an 82-65 victory over the Chatham Cougars.
Barzak scored 30 points, her personal best single-game point total of the season, and grabbed 16 rebounds. She also notched three blocks and a steal. In all, Barzak made 12-of-18 shots from the floor and 6-of-8 shots from the charity stripe.
The contest was tied 37-37 at halftime, but the Tomcats never trailed the rest of the way after freshman forward Hannah Stoneman hit a pair of free throws a little over a minute into the second half. Thiel led by as many as 21 points in the second stanza.
Kelly Muffley (Salsburg, Pa./Western Reserve Academy) scored 19 points for the Tomcats to go along with seven rebounds and three assists. Freshman forward Jaclyn Watkins scored 11 points and grabbed six rebounds while Stoneman finished the game with eight points.
Rachel McClain led Chatham with 16 points while Becky Rowe scored 13 points. Marguerite Sargent and Carly Zelenak recorded 11 and 10 points, respectively.
The Tomcats (7-17, 6-11 PAC) will return to action Saturday when they host the Grove City Wolverines. Tipoff is slated for 1 p.m.
