Berg leads Thiel to 2-1 win over Bethany

Berg's two goals the difference against Bison

Box Score BETHANY, W.Va. – The Thiel College women's soccer team traveled to Bethany College to tangle with the Bison for a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) showdown Tuesday. The Tomcats did just enough to pull out a 2-1 victory over the Bison.

The Bison staked claim to an early 1-0 lead, as Brittany Fullbright's corner kick found the foot of Lindsay Sparr, who found the back of the net in the sixth minute of play.

The score remained that way until the 43rd minute, when sophomore Morgan Berg (Cleveland, Ohio/Rocky River) lobbed one of her team-high five shots over the outstretched Bison goalkeeper to knot the score at 1-1.

After the teams returned to the pitch for the second half of play, Berg went on the attack again in the 48th minute, scoring her tenth goal of the season from 15-yards out to give Thiel a 2-1 lead.

The Tomcat defense did a fantastic job of stifling the Bison attack from that point forward, which managed just three shots after Berg's second goal. Thiel, on the other hand, attempted 15 shots over 90 minutes of play, including 10 in the second half alone. Sophomore Mary Oakey (Baltimore, Md. /Mercy ) was the biggest beneficiary of Thiel's stingy defense. She improved her record in net to 3-5 overall after making one save over 90 minutes of play.

The Tomcats are back in action on Saturday, Oct. 26 when they host Thomas More for an 11 a.m. contest.
