Thiel’s Muffley scores 1,000th career point against Thomas More

GREENVILLE, Pa. – Thiel College senior guard Kelly Muffley (Salsburg, Pa./Western Reserve Academy) recorded her 1,000th career point Saturday in an 80-54 loss to the Thomas More Saints at Beeghly Gymnasium.

Muffley entered Saturday's contest with 998 career points. She earned her 1,000th point with less than 10 minutes remaining in the first half when she hit a jumper from near the foul line with just a second left on the shot clock.

An All-PAC honorable mention selection last season, Muffley went on to score 10 points in Saturday's loss with five assists, four rebounds and three steals. She is the 13th player in the history of Thiel women's basketball to notch 1,000 career points.

Thiel senior forward Kelly Barzak (Warren, OH/Howland), who reached the 1,000-point plateau earlier this season, led the Tomcats with 15 points and 10 rebounds to record a double-double. Freshman forward Jaclyn Watkins also scored 10 points for the Tomcats.

Katie Kitchen led the Saints with 22 points while Jenny Burgoyne recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Also for Thomas More, Allison Long scored 17 points.

The Tomcats (2-11, 1-5 PAC) will return to action Wednesday when they travel to Waynesburg, Pa., to take on the Waynesburg Yellow Jackets. Tipoff is slated for 5:30 p.m.
