Muffley, Barzak lead Tomcats to second straight win

BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – Kelly Muffley (Salsburg, Pa./Western Reserve Academy) scored a game-high 25 points and Kelly Barzak (Warren, OH/Howland) recorded a double-double with 13 points and 17 rebounds to lead the Thiel women's basketball team to a 64-52 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) victory Saturday over the Geneva Golden Tornadoes. The win was Thiel's second straight, with both wins coming over PAC opponents.
 
With her 13-point performance, Barzak (1,212 career points) moved into fourth place on the Thiel College women's basketball all-time career scoring list, surpassing Cindy Bynum (1984-88) who scored 1,203 points in her career. In addition, Barzak's 17 rebounds on Saturday were a personal best on the season. Barzak also added four blocks and two assists in the win over Geneva.
 
A senior guard who scored her 1,000th career point earlier this season, Muffley led the Tomcats with 25 points Saturday. Muffley has been on fire recently, scoring more than 20 points in five of the last seven games. She also recorded six rebounds, two assists and a steal Saturday.
 
Heidi Mann paced Geneva with 20 points while Samantha Fisher scored 12 points.
 
Thiel dominated Geneva in second chance points (15-2) and points off the bench (15-1).
 
The Tomcats (4-13, 3-7 PAC) will try to extend their winning streak to three games Wednesday when they host the Westminster College Titans at Beeghly Gymnasium. The game is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
