BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – The Thiel Tomcats suffered an 87-86 overtime loss Saturday to the host Geneva Golden Tornadoes. Thiel fell to 8-7 overall and 5-4 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference with the loss.
Chace McKinney (Boardman, Ohio/Kennedy Catholic) led the Tomcats with a game-high 27 points to go along with six rebounds.
A.J. Forbes (Lighthouse Point, Fla./Pompano Beach) recorded a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds while also adding four assists and two steals.
Also for Thiel,
Anthony Harvey (New Castle, Pa./New Castle) scored 17 points with five assists and two steals while
R.J. Brownlee (Donora, Pa./Ringgold) scored 10 points with three assists and two steals.
The Golden Tornadoes led at the half, 36-29, but the Tomcats stormed back to lead by as many as six points in the second half. Geneva's Keynon Jackson scored on a lay-up with 10 seconds remaining in regulation to tie the score, 77-77. The Golden Tornadoes were then able to keep the Tomcats from scoring on the final possession of regulation to force overtime.
A Harvey three-pointer gave the Tomcats the lead in overtime, but Jackson hit a pair of free throws for the Golden Tornadoes with less than a minute to play in the extra session to preserve the win for his team.
Five Geneva players reached double figures in scoring, led by Matt Lorello's 25-point effort. Zac Rorick scored 16 points while Jordan Harbison and Keynon Jackson scored 13 points apiece. Also for the Golden Tornadoes, D.J. Damazo notched 10 points.
The Tomcats (8-7, 5-4 PAC) will return to action Wednesday when they host the Westminster College Titans at Beeghly Gymnasium. Tipoff is scheduled for 8 p.m.
