Kelly Muffley (Salsburg, Pa./Western Reserve Academy) recorded a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Thiel Tomcats to 70-56 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) victory Wednesday over the visiting Chatham University Cougars.
Muffley, who recorded her 1,000
th point earlier this season, moved into 8
th place on the women's basketball all-time career scoring list with her 20-point performance Wednesday, surpassing Amanda Swanson (2000-03) who notched 1,059 points in her career.
The Cougars led by six points, 25-19, with 8:40 left in the first half, but the Tomcats went on a 10-0 run to finish the half and led at the break, 29-25. Muffley and senior forward
Kelly Barzak (Warren, OH/Howland) keyed the run with five points apiece. Thiel never trailed in the second half and led by as many as 18 points.
Barzak, who like Muffley notched her 1,000
th career point earlier this season, scored 18 points against the Cougars with nine rebounds. She also recorded six blocks, two assists and two steals. Freshman forward Jaclyn Watkins also reached double figures with 10 points.
Rachel McClain paced Chatham (2-14, 1-8 PAC) with 19 points while Emily Schmidt contributed 11 points.
The Tomcats (3-13, 2-7 PAC) will travel to Beaver Falls, Pa., Saturday to face the Geneva College Golden Tornadoes. Tipoff is slated for 1 p.m.
