GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Tomcat women's soccer team played to a draw as they finished with a 1-1 tie against visiting Pitt-Greensburg on Saturday.
After a scoreless first half, it didn't take long for the Tomcats to get on the board as
Taryn Benner (Alliance, Ohio/Marlington ) scored off of a rebound in just the ninth minute of the second half to give Thiel a 1-0 advantage. The Bobcats had an answer, coming right back 13 minutes later, as Alexa Henry beat goalkeeper
Mary Oakey (Baltimore, Md. /Mercy ) to tie the game at one apiece.
Oakey came up big in goal for the Tomcats, including a game-saving stop on a Bobcats breakaway with just minutes remaining in the game. In all, Oakey was credited with three saves on eight shots.
For the rest of the game, including two overtimes, neither team could notch the go ahead goal as the Tomcats earned their first tie of the season to improve their record to 1-1-1.
Thiel will be back in action on Sept. 9 as they travel to Buffalo, N.Y. to take on the D'Youville Spartans. Kickoff is scheduled for 10 a.m.
