Saints defeat Tomcats

GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thomas More Saints scored three first-half goals en route to a 6-1 victory over the Thiel Tomcats Sunday at Alumni Stadium.
 
Emily Sanker started Thomas More's offense when she found the back of the net 12:48 into regulation. Lauren Wietmarschen made it a 2-0 game 32 minutes into the first half on a pass from Chrissy Sonderman. The Saints took a 3-0 lead a little over two minutes later when Sam Work set up Olivia Huber's goal.
 
Abby Gindling notched the Saints' fourth goal of the contest less than five minutes into the second half on a feed from Emilee Buchanan. The Tomcats responded with their first goal of the afternoon, which was scored by Nichole Carlton (Beloit, Ohio/West Branch ) on a pass from Taylor Akins-Rollins (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper Saint Clair).
 
Wietmarschen and Gindling each scored a second goal late in the second half to give the Saints the 6-1 victory.
 
Freshman goalkeeper Mary Oakey (Baltimore, Md. /Mercy ) made six saves for the Tomcats. Abbie McBride tallied one save for the Saints.
 
The Tomcats (3-5-1, 0-1 PAC) will host the Waynesburg University Yellow Jackets Tuesday at Alumni Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
