SALEM, W.Va. -- The Thiel College women's soccer team won for the second time in a row by defeating the Tigers of Salem International by a score of 2-0 on Saturday.
Thiel's first goal came in the 19th minute of play as senior
Karen Wolfe (Troy, Pa./Troy Senior) scored to put the Tomcats in front 1-0. Eleven minutes later, freshman
Nichole Carlton (Beloit, Ohio/West Branch ) placed a corner kick at the foot of junior
Alana Smith (Struthers, Ohio/Struthers), who found the back of the net to give Thiel the 2-0 advantage heading into half-time.
The game would end by the same score as Thiel improved its record to 3-4-1.
The Tomcats were efficient, scoring twice even though they were outshot 11-8 by the Tigers. The Tigers also held an advantage on corner kicks, 4-2.
Freshman goalkeeper
Mary Oakey (Baltimore, Md. /Mercy ) recorded her second shut-out of the season as she made five saves in net for the Blue and Gold.
The Tomcats will be back in action Sunday, September 30 when they open PAC play by hosting Thomas More. The game is scheduled for 2 p.m.
