BUFFALO, N.Y. — The Tomcat women's soccer team was defeated 3-1 in non-conference play by the Spartans of D'Youville College on Sunday.
 
The Spartans got on the board first in the 23^rd minute of play as Sam Giebner found the back of the net off of a corner kick to put D'Youville up 1-0. Her teammate, Danielle Gehen followed Giebner's lead in the 37^th minute, scoring a goal of her own to give D'Youville a 2-0 advantage at halftime.
 
Thiel finally got on the scoreboard in the 81^st minute, when sophomore Nicole Jeschelnig (Madison, Ohio/Madison) scored her first goal of the season to trim the Spartans' lead to 2-1.
 
D'Youville unfortunately had a response, as Lauren Walsh took a pass from Liz Lyons and beat the Tomcats defense to put the game out of reach in the 87^th minute, 3-1.
 
Mary Oakey made four saves in goal for the Tomcats.

The Tomcats will be back in action Thursday as they take on Franciscan University of Steubenville at 5 p.m. The game will be played at Alumni Stadium.
