CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky. – The Thiel College women's basketball team fell for the fourth consecutive game as they were defeated by the Saints of Thomas More College 89-65 on Saturday afternoon in Crestview Hills, Ky.
The Tomcats came out of the gate quickly in the first half of play as
Kelly Muffley (Salsburg, Pa./Western Reserve Academy) scored seven of her team-high 17 points in the first ten minutes of the contest. However, the Saints kept the game close and took the lead from Thiel for the first time at the 10:04 mark and never looked back. With Thomas More up by five points, a three-point field goal by
Julia Monteleone (Avon, Ohio/Avon) at the 4:38 mark cut the game to two points at 29-27. Over the final 4:38 of the first half Thomas More outscored the Tomcats 17-3 to close out the half with a 16 point lead at 46-30.
In the second half of play, the Tomcats could cut the lead to no closer than 11 points as they fell for the fourth straight game, 89-65.
Offensively, Muffley led the Tomcats with 17 points, with
Kelly Barzak (Warren, OH/Howland) and
Ashley Davis (Cleveland, Ohio/St. Peter Chanel) also notching double-figures with 11 apiece. The Saints were led by Alison Long's 20 points and a double-double by Moriah Corey, who notched 14 points and 16 rebounds to help Thomas More control the glass 37-27.
The Tomcats will be back in action on Wednesday, February 8 when they travel to Beaver Falls to take on the Golden Tornadoes of Geneva College. The game is scheduled for a 5:30 p.m. start time.
