WAYNESBURG, Pa. – Third-seeded Waynesburg University saw Hannah Hunter score a game-high 28 points while also posting nine rebounds, eight assists, and five steals in its 80-68 victory over sixth-seed Thiel Tuesday evening in the opening round of the 2012 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Women's Basketball Championship Tournament.
The Yellow Jackets (20-6) had four players score in double figures, paced by Hunter's 28. Brittany Spencer totaled 16 points and 11 rebounds while Jessi Drayer added 14 points and six rebounds. Elaine Hasek chipped in with 10 points and nine rebounds.
Waynesburg benefited significantly from 23 Tomcat turnovers, converting the miscues into 28 points. The Yellow Jackets also finished with a 23-9 advantage in second-chance points, thanks to 22 offensive rebounds. Waynesburg finished with a 44-38 edge on the glass against the Tomcats.
Kelly Barzak (Warren, OH/Howland) paced the Thiel (8-18) with 24 points, 11 rebounds, and five blocks. The double-double effort was Barzak's fifth of the season.
Ashley Davis (Cleveland, Ohio/St. Peter Chanel) added 14 points and six rebounds while 
Kelly Muffley (Salsburg, Pa./Western Reserve Academy) and 
Kiki Jackson (Cleveland, Ohio/Cleveland Heights) each finished with 12.
Spencer's layup at the 6:12 mark of the first pushed the Yellow Jackets in front by 15, 30-15. The Tomcats finished out the period outscoring the Yellow Jackets 16-8 and trailed by seven, 38-31, going into intermission.
A Spencer jumper with just over eight minutes to play extended the homestanding Yellow Jackets lead to 18, 67-49, helping Waynesburg capture the momentum and never allowing the visiting Tomcats to cut the deficit to single digits.
