LATROBE, Pa. – The Tomcat men's basketball team suffered its first Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) loss of the season on Wednesday, losing at Saint Vincent College 78-64.
Wednesday's loss snapped a 17-game regular season PAC win streak for Thiel (14-5, 11-1).
Saint Vincent (15-5, 8-3), winners of seven of its last eight, have dealt the Tomcats two of its three regular-season conference losses since the start of the 2010-2011 season.
Blair Rozenblad (Youngstown, Ohio/Kennedy Catholic) led the Tomcats with 18 points and 13 rebounds.
Devon Adams (Philadelphia, Pa./George Junior Republic) added 18 points while
Anthony Harvey (New Castle, Pa./New Castle) chipped in with 12.
Saint Vincent finished with five players in double figure scoring, led by Isaac Turner's 19 points. Chris Klimchock totaled 15 points, six rebounds, and six rebounds while Tauvon Pettiford added 15 points and nine rebounds. Dennis Bassich and Dillon Stich chipped in with 12 and 11 points, respectively.
The Bearcats finished with a 46-36 edge in rebounding, marking the first time this season the Tomcats were outrebounded by a PAC opponent.
Saint Vincent jumped out to an 18-8 lead 7:35 into the first and after closing the half on a 13-7 run went into the break with a 39-23 lead.
Thiel outscored Saint Vincent 13-6 to start the second and trimmed the Bearcat lead to just nine, 45-36, 4:58 into the half. Up 56-50 with 7:34 to play the Bearcats used a 16-7 run to stretch their lead to 15, 72-57, with 1:46 remaining. Stith knocked down four free throws after the Tomcats were whistled for a technical foul, propelling the homestanding Bearcats to the 14-point victory.
Thiel returns to PAC action on Saturday, February 4 at Thomas More College. Tipoff is scheduled for 3 p.m.
