EDINBORO, Pa. — Four Fighting Scots scored in double figures as Edinboro cruised to an 88-66 win over visiting Thiel in a non-conference men's basketball game.
The Fighting Scots (7-2) were the second and final Division II opponent of the season for the Tomcats. That should help coach
Tim Loomis' squad as they shoot for the Presidents' Athletic Conference title with 12 of their final 13 games coming against league opponents.
Unlike their other Division II opponent this season — Clarion — who the Tomcats played close and ultimately defeated, Edinboro jumped out to a big lead midway through the first half and never let up. A 10-2 run that began with 11:52 remaining in the first half put the Fighting Scots up 29-21, a lead they would extend to 42-33 at the break.
The two teams played similarly in the second half, with the Fighting Scots outscoring the Tomcats 46 -33.
Chace McKinney (Boardman, Ohio/Kennedy Catholic) was the top scorer for the Tomcats with a season-high 29 points, including 14 of his team's 33 points in the first half. McKinney also pulled down four rebounds, dished out three assists and had two steals.
Ladell Trotty (Cleveland, Ohio/Lutheran East) had 12 points and nine rebound s and
Eric Mallinger (Pittsburgh, Pa./Taylor Allderdice) added 10 points.
The Tomcats drop to 6-3 with the loss. They travel to Penn State Beaver tomorrow to take on the 9-2 Lions, with tipoff set for 3 p.m.
