PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Thiel Tomcat women's basketball team suffered an 81-55 loss in their season opener Friday to La Roche College.
 
Kelly Muffley (Salsburg, Pa./Western Reserve Academy) and Kelly Barzak (Warren, OH/Howland) paced the Tomcats in the loss. Muffley led Thiel with 16 points, nine of which came on three-pointers, and added six rebounds. Barzak was one rebound shy of a double-double. She scored 15 points to go along with nine rebounds.
 
Jessica Pitts and Casie Cygan led La Roche with 20 points apiece. Pitts also pulled down 11 rebounds.
 
Thiel (0-1) will try to get on track Saturday when they face Juniata. Tipoff is 2 p.m. at La Roche College.
