Women's Tennis falls to Lions

GREENVILLE Pa. (Oct. 3) — The Tomcat women's tennis team dropped a tough 6-3 decision to Penn-State Altoona at Thiel College on Wednesday.

The Lions and Tomcats started the day off with a win at number one doubles, as Shay Kashey (Edinboro, Pa./General McLane) and Lauren Mittner (New Brighton, Pa./New Brighton) won decisively, 8-2 over the team of Cassie Yatcilla /Kathryn Dudley. Tomcat junior Stephanie Dudics-Giagnocavo (Monroeville, Pa./Greensburg-Salem) and Tyler Fleming (New Brighton, Pa./New Brighton) than got the victory at number two doubles 8-3. The Lions team of Carline Dudley and Kathryn Dudley defeated Liz Moir (Brentwood, Pa./Baldwin) and Sandy Rodehdeaver in a hard fought match at number three doubles, 8-6 to put the Lions up 2-1.


The Tomcats would come right back as both Dudics-Giagnocavo and Moir avenged their doubles loss. Dudics-Giagnocavo defeated Katelyn Piper in number three singles (6-2; 6-4), and Moir defeated Taylor Pompili in number four singles (8-4). However, that was all the Tomcats were able to win in singles as they fell to 2-9 overall on the season.


Thiel will be back in action tomorrow when they travel to Presidents' Athletic Conference foe Grove City. First serve is scheduled for 4 p.m.
