Westminster Women Erase Second Half Tomcat Lead, Earn 61-55 Road Win

GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Westminster College women's basketball squad erased a seven-point Thiel lead late to earn a 61-55 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) road victory over Thiel Saturday afternoon at Beeghly Gymnasium.

Kelly Barzak (Warren, OH/Howland) totaled 14 points, 10 rebounds, five blocks, and five assists for the Tomcats. Kelly Muffley (Salsburg, Pa./Western Reserve Academy) led Thiel offensively with 15 points and four rebounds while Ashley Davis (Cleveland, Ohio/St. Peter Chanel) added 12 points, nine rebounds, and three assists.

Courtney Zitt had a game-high 18 points and nine rebounds to lead the Titans. Emily Dolsak finished with 11 points, 10 rebounds, and three assists while Jenn Cantella chipped in with 11. 

Thiel (5-14, 5-7) carried a lead throughout much of the first half, pushing their lead to as many as eight, 8, 16-8, with just under seven minutes remaining before the break. Westminster closed out the first outscoring the Tocmats 17-8 and went into the half with a 25-24 lead.

Thiel broke a 39-39 second half tie with a 13-6 run to jump in front of the Titans 52-45 with just under four minutes to play. Westminster did not allow a Thiel field goal in the final 3:58, outscoring the Tomcats 16-3 during the stretch to claim the six-point win.

Thiel returns to action on Wednesday, February 1 at PAC rival Saint Vincent College. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
