Muffley Leads Four in Double Figures, Tomcats Post 65-53 Win at Grove City

GROVE CITY, Pa. – Kelly Muffley (Salsburg, Pa./Western Reserve Academy) led a quartet of Tomcats in double figures Wednesday evening, finishing with 15 points and 10 rebounds in Thiel's 65-53 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) win at Grove City College.

Wednesday's double-double was Muffley's third of the season and fourth of her career. She finished 6-of-9 from the field and 3-of-5 from three-point range while dispersing a team-high four assists.

Thiel (3-12, 3-5) had three others register double-figure points, headlined by Kelly Barzak (Warren, OH/Howland) and 14-point, six rebound, three assist, and three block evening. Ashley Davis (Cleveland, Ohio/St. Peter Chanel) totaled 12 points and eight rebounds while Kiki Jackson (Cleveland, Ohio/Cleveland Heights) added 12 points and three assists.

The Tomcats finished shooting 44.6 percent from the floor and managed a 35-28 advantage on the glass.

Grove City (4-11, 3-5) entered having won its previous two PAC matchups but saw Thiel go to lead wire to wire. Hannah Jo Coneby paced the Wolverines with 15 points while Megan Gebrosky and Leah Gibson added 12 and 10 points, respectively.

Muffley's three with 5:09 remaining in the first gave the Tomcats a 27-16 lead and they maintained a 34-24 advantage going into intermission.

Grove City chipped the Thiel lead down to just six, 54-48, with 4:52 to play but was outscored 11-5 down the stretch in their first loss to Thiel since suffering a 66-59 overtime loss in Greenville on January 9, 2010.

The Tomcats host PAC foe Waynesburg University on Saturday, January 21 at Beeghly Gymnasium. Tipoff is set for 1 p.m.
