Box Score

GREENVILLE, Pa. – Kelly Barzak (Warren, OH/Howland) finished with 16 points, nine rebounds, and five blocks while Ashley Davis (Cleveland, Ohio/St. Peter Chanel) produced her second double-double of the season with 12 points and 10 rebounds as they led the Tomcat women's basketball team to a 73-55 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) victory over Chatham University Saturday afternoon at Beeghly Gymnasium.

Along with the terrific efforts given by Barzak and Davis, Kelly Muffley (Salsburg, Pa./Western Reserve Academy) totaled 13 points and four rebounds with Bethany Hines (Youngstown, Ohio/Youngstown Early College) and Julia Monteleone (Avon, Ohio/Avon) chipping in with nine and eight points, respectively.

Thiel (3-12, 3-5) shot season-high 46 percent (15-59) on the afternoon and tallied a 43-38 edge over the Cougars on the glass. The Tomcat defense also limited Chatham to just 25 percent shooting.

Lizz King scored a game-high 26 points for Chatham (2-12, 0-8). Carly Zelenak was the only other Cougar to post double figures, finishing with 12 points and nine rebounds.

Chatham was able to close to within two, 11-8, of Thiel with just over 13 minutes to play in the first, but the Tomcats finished off the period by outscoring the Cougars 23-9 and went into the half with a 34-17 lead.

A 12-2 run to start the second saw the Tomcats push their lead to 27, 46-19 with just 4:27 gone in the second half.

King's three-pointer with 3:26 to play saw Chatham trim the Thiel lead to under 20 (68-51) for the first time since the opening minute of action in the second, but the Tomcats dug in their heels down the stretch in preserving the 18-point victory.

The Tomcats will be back in action on Wednesday, January 18 when they travel to PAC rival Grove City College. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
