Women Battle La Roche to 0-0 Draw

Box Score

GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel women's soccer team, behind a six-save effort from Angela Balint (Sharpsville, Pa./Kennedy Catholic), battled visiting La Roche College to a 0-0 draw Wednesday afternoon at Alumni Stadium.

The goalless draw extends Thiel's shutout streak to an program-best four games (outscoring opponents 14-0 during streak).

La Roche (2-1-2) totaled 12 shots while holding Thiel (3-2-1) to just four and finished with a 9-1 edge in corner kicks in the 120 minutes of action.

The visiting Redhawks spent most of the first half in the Tomcats' end, registering a 5-2 advantage in shots and a 5-1 edge in corner kicks. Balint stopped three La Roche shots in the opening 20 minutes.

The second half proved to be more of the same for Thiel, playing from their end throughout much of the period. The Redhawks finished with a 6-1 lead in shots and a 3-0 advantage in corners in the final 20 minutes of regulation.

Thiel had perhaps its best scoring opportunity of the game in the first 10-minute overtime period as an attempt by Nicole Jeschelnig (Madison, Ohio/Madison) went just wide in the 101st minute.

La Roche was the only team to manage a shot in the second overtime period.

Bethanie Moreschi, a 2011 Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) women's soccer preseason co-player of year, led the Redhawks with five shots (2 SOG). La Roche goalkeeper Ralene Zajac finished one save.

Thiel will return to action on Saturday, Sept. 17 when they play host to D'Youville College. The women will take on the visiting Spartans at 1 p.m. with the men's teams scheduled to face off at 3 p.m.
