BUFFALO, N.Y. — The Tomcat women's tennis team dropped a tough 5-4 decision to Medaille College on Sunday, September 11 in Buffalo N.Y.
The Mavericks and Tomcats started the day off with a hard fought match at number one doubles as freshmen
Rachael LaBar (Bangor, Pa./Bangor) and
Shay Kashey (Edinboro, Pa./General McLane) fell just short losing 9-8 including a 7-2 decision in the tie-breaker. Tomcat freshman
Brianna Tiedeman (Jarrettsville, Md./North Harford) and
Liz Moir (Brentwood, Pa./Baldwin) than got the victory at number two doubles 8-5. Medaille then captured number three doubles 8-0 to go up 2-1 on the day.
The Tomcats would come right back as both LaBar and Kashey avenged their doubles loss. LaBar defeated Courtney Kopper in number one singles (6-1; 6-2), and Kashey defeated Danielle Rollins in number two singles (6-4; 6-2). However, the only other Tomcat to win a singles match was Moir (6-4; 2-6; 10-2) at number four singles and the Tomcats fell 5-4 overall.
Thiel will be back in action on Tuesday September 13 when they host Presidents' Athletic Conference foe Waynesburg. First serve is scheduled for 4 p.m.
