GREENSBURG, Pa. — The Tomcat women's soccer team earned their third-straight shutout victory of the season as they defeated the Bobcats of Pitt-Greensburg by a score of 1-0 on Saturday afternoon in Greensburg, Pa.
The Tomcats used strong defense and continued pressure in the first half as they had an 8-0 advantage in corner kicks in just the first half of play. The defense also played well, as they forced a turnover at the 35 minute mark and senior
Katie Bretz (New Middletown, Ohio/Springfield Local) flipped the ball over the Bobcat goalkeeper's head to give Thiel the 1-0 lead heading into the half.
Thiel would continue a stout defensive performance as they allowed just one shot by Pitt-Greensburg in the second half and helped freshman keeper
Angela Balint (Sharpsville, Pa./Kennedy Catholic) earn her third shutout of the season. With the victory the women surpassed their win total from last season getting over the .500 mark for the first time since September 1 of 2009.
The Tomcats will look to continue their hot start as they host La Roche College as part of a double-header with the men's team. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m.
