Tomcat Baseball Defeats Gators 9-3

Senior First Baseman Jake Thomas Hit 2-for-4 Including a 3-Run Home Run To Help Lift Thiel To A 9-3 Victory
MEADVILLE, Pa. – The Tomcat baseball team improved its record to 11-8 after a 9-1 victory over Allegheny College on Thursday in Meadville.

Thiel started the scoring in the top of the first inning as Bobby Hillier (Brook Park, Ohio, Midpark) doubled in Eric Steininger (West Leechburg, Pa., Leechburg) to make the Tomcat lead 1-0. Thiel then exploded for four runs in the top of the second inning on two two-run doubles. The first off the bat of Luke Johnson (Rochester, Pa., Rochester) which scored Jake Thomas (Canton, Ohio, Massillon Jackson) and Weston Snyder (Cranesville, Pa., Northwestern); and the second double hit by Phil Double (Evans City, Pa., Seneca Valley) which plated Eric King (Butler, Pa., Butler) and Johnson to make the score 5-0.

In the top of the third inning, the Tomcats got another run off a solo home-run to left field by sophomore designated hitter Jarod Nanna (Johnstown, Pa., Conemaugh) to make the Tomcat lead 6-0.

After the Gators got on the board with one run in the bottom of the fourth inning, both teams' bats were kept silent until the top of the seventh when Thiel finished off their scoring with a three-run inning. All of the runs came off of the bat of Thomas by way of a three-run home run to left field. The home run marked Thomas' third of the season, which leads the team.

Allegheny would get two more runs back in the bottom of the ninth inning, but that is as close as they would get as the Tomcats won the game by a final of 9-3.

Offensively, Thiel was led by Thomas who went 2-for-4 on the day including the three-run homer in the top of the seventh. Johnson and Double also had good days at the plate as they drove in two-runs apiece.

On the mound for the Tomcats, six different pitchers combined to hold the Gators to just three runs over the nine innings to give Thiel their 11th victory of the season.

The Tomcats will be back in action Friday April, 8 when they host Presidents' Athletic Conference foe Grove City. First pitch at Tomcat Park is scheduled for 3 p.m.
