Thiel Women Fall to Top-Ranked Thomas More in Opening Round of PAC Playoffs

CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky. - Making the long trip to Kentucky for the second time in as many weeks, the Thiel women's basketball team had its season come to an end Tuesday with a 68-47 loss to top-seeded Thomas More.

The Saints are the top-ranked team in the nation in Division III and remain unbeaten at 26-0. They will move on to the play the lowest remaining seed Thursday.

Thomas More led 34-25 at intermission before really pulling away at the start of the second half. The Saints went back to a full-court press that helped them extend their lead in the first half and found the same success.

Most of the damage was done inside by Nicole Dickman. She scored six of her team-high 18 points during the run, all on layups. Chelsea Tolliver also reached double-figures with 13 points.

Kelly Barzak (Warren, Ohio, Howland) paced the Tomcats with 18 points while Kelly Muffley (Salsburg, Pa., Western Reserve Academy) was right behind her with 15 points. Barzak also added four blocks, and along with Ashley Davis (Cleveland, Ohio, St. Peter Chanel), tied for the team lead in rebounds with six.

Rebounding proved to be a problem for Thiel as Thomas More held a 49-30 advantage in that category. Moriah Corey came off the bench and grabbed a game-high eight boards.

Senior Jasmin Jones (Pittsburgh, Pa., Wilkinsburg) played her final game for the Tomcats. She scored two points, had two rebounds and posted two blocks.
