Late Second-Half Surge Leads Chatham to 63-59 Win at Thiel

GREENVILLE, Pa. – A late 7-0 run keyed Chatham University's 63-59 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) victory over Thiel College Saturday afternoon in the regular-season finale Beeghly Gymnasium.

Sophomore Coleen Kiss registered a career-high 19 points off of the Cougar bench. Sonjia Hoston was the only other Chatham (10-15, 5-11) player in double figures with 10. Carly Zelenak and Lizz King finished with nine and eight, respectively.

With the win the Cougars have now reached double-digit victories in four-straight seasons.

Tied 53-53 with 2:22 to go in the second, Chatham put together a 7-0 run covering 1:51 and assumed a 60-53 with just over a half-minute to play. Kelly Muffley (Salsburg, Pa., Western Reserve Academy) knocked down a three with 25 seconds to play cut the lead to four, 60-56, but Kayla Hilko converted on three-of-four free throws down the stretch in securing the four-point win.

Muffley tallied a game-high 20 points and secured six rebounds for the Tomcats. Ashley Davis (Cleveland, Ohio, St. Peter Chanel) totaled 15 points and nine rebounds while Kelly Barzak (Warren, Ohio, Howland) posted her fifth double-double of the season, scoring 10 points to go along with 10 rebounds. Rianne Thornton (Trotwood, Ohio, Trotwood-Madison) managed five rebounds, five assists, and four steals while Jasmin Jones (Pittsburgh, Pa., Wilkinsburg), in her final game at Beeghly Gymnasium, scored seven.

With the Tomcats leading 27-20 with 2:31 to play in the opening half the Cougars outscored the homestanding Tomcats 10-5 heading into the break to cut their lead to just two, 32-30. The second half of action saw six ties and nine lead changes.

Thiel (5-20, 3-13) enters this week's PAC Championship Tournament as the eighth seed and will travel to face top seed Thomas More, currently the number one team in the latest D3hoops.com Top 25 poll Tuesday evening.
