Edinboro, Pa. – The men's basketball squad suffered a 95-75 setback against NCAA Division II foe Edinboro University Sunday afternoon at McComb Fieldhouse.
Blair Rozenblad (Youngstown, Ohio/Kennedy Catholic) led the Tomcats (2-2) with his 18 point, 12 rebound effort.
Anthony Harvey (New Castle, Pa./New Castle) added 17 points and six rebounds while
Chace McKinney (Boardman, Ohio/Kennedy Catholic) and
Devon Adams (Philadelphia, Pa./George Junior Republic) each chipped in with 11. The Tomcats managed to finish with a 41-38 advantage on the glass, including an 18-8 edge on the offensive boards.
Bryan Theriot led the Fighting Scots (2-2) with 25 points and 12 rebounds. Isaiah Prince finished with 22 points and four steals while Clint Nicholson added 16 points and five rebounds. Jay Fletcher totaled 11 points, six assists, and four steals in the win.
Edinboro finished shooting 53.6 percent (30-56) from the floor and converted on 81.7 percent (30-37) of their opportunities at the free throw line.
Thiel jumped out to an early 17-7 lead just 4:46 into the contest, but Edinboro answered with a 15-4 run, capped by a pair of Alan Heter free throws, to take a 22-21 lead at the 10:25 mark of the first. The Fighting Scots closed out the half outscoring the Tomcats 31-13 and carried a 53-34 lead into the break.
Edinboro extended its second-half lead to as many as 29, 84-55, with 8:54 to play before Thiel put together a 15-5 run over the ensuing 4:46 to cut the lead to Fighting Scots lead to 18, 88-70, with just over four to play.
The 95 points given up Sunday were the most allowed by a Tomcat squad since a 103-9 loss to Thomas More College on Feb. 17, 2010.
Thiel opens its 2011-2012 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) schedule on Wednesday, Nov. 30 at Waynesburg University. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
